I witnessed the first part of this conversation ... I think "we" may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, but O'Connor figured out a different angle ... maybe?

"O'Connor ... dang it!  That is all I can say ... NOW... we got to get back to class!"  O'Connor gave some smart response, but headed in the direction of the next class.  She was a good friend and loyal to the bone!

The fun and laughter we shared are too numerous, but the following is a taste of Debbie along with her laughter and kindness.  A couple of years ago, Debbie sent me a letter and included a note that I wrote to her in high school.  She loved the note and wanted to “regift” it back to me.  WHAT?  Not only did she save it for over 40 years, but she thought I may want to send it to someone else as she couldn’t throw it away!  She thought it was a GREAT letter to her, but wanted others to hear the same kind of message!  Loved it!  Her good deed brought laughter to my day and that gesture rekindled our friendship with letters and Christmas greetings to each other.   Greetings from Debbie were infrequent, but she did mention notes helped her with days ahead, so I continued to write.

Debbie always managed to bring laughter to my life during our high school day adventures.  She had a surprise at every turn and always when I least expected it!   About a year ago, a letter appeared from Debbie in my mailbox.  She wrote, "Don't you have my correct address?  The mail lady stops by my house once a week NOW, because the house number is always wrong on your letters to me!  She recognizes YOUR return address and brings it personally to my door! Here is my address and my house number ….!"   Then she wrote, "I've gotten to know the mail lady ... she is a very nice person!  Thank you!"  There was my surprise! She turned a situation that was awkward into a great laugh that we shared from our letter writing!

Her notes remind me that there are blessings in all we do and to always be open to the goodness of God.  She traveled to Italy and a letter came with a Padre medal and Padova card after their trip because she was thinking of me.  Once again, she ceased to amaze me with her tenderness and kindness!

“O'Connor, you will be missed and may God give your family strength and courage during your times of grief.  Thank you Debbie for sharing pieces of joy with me during our high school days and then finding that card that rekindled our friendship!  May you rest in peace, my dear friend!  Prayers, peace, and I Love you ... Jeanne.
